Rep. Eric Swalwell thought he was being clever when he released a defensive video statement Friday, claiming the multiple sexual assault allegations against him are nothing more than "politically motivated lies" designed to derail his California gubernatorial campaign. Instead, the disgraced Democrat may have just handed his political opponents the smoking gun they needed.
Multiple women have now come forward accusing Swalwell of sexual assault, but rather than addressing the serious allegations head-on, the congressman who famously had ties to Chinese spy Fang Fang chose to play the victim card. Sound familiar, patriots?
Here's where Swalwell's strategy completely backfired: By immediately jumping to the "political hit job" defense without even attempting to deny the specific allegations, he's essentially admitting there's something to hide. Innocent people don't typically respond to false accusations by talking about political timing – they categorically deny wrongdoing.
The Swalwell Pattern of Scandals
This is the same Eric Swalwell who spent years on the House Intelligence Committee while secretly compromised by a Chinese intelligence operative. The same Swalwell who pushed the Russia collusion hoax for years. The same Swalwell who has made a career out of accusing others of crimes they didn't commit.
"In politics, anything is possible," Swalwell said in his damage control video, desperately trying to change the subject to President Trump's own battles with false accusations.
But there's a key difference here, folks. President Trump has always vehemently denied false allegations and fought them in court. Swalwell? He's already moved straight to the "this is all political" deflection without even bothering to claim innocence.
California voters deserve better than a scandal-plagued congressman who can't keep his hands to himself or his mouth shut about classified information. Swalwell's political career has been built on lies, leaks, and now potentially much worse.
Will California Republicans finally capitalize on this gift-wrapped opportunity to expose the Democrats' culture of corruption? Or will they let another swamp creature slither away from accountability?
