The Ambassador to China recently commented on the United States' stance concerning China's interactions with Iran. According to the Ambassador, both his and President Trump's efforts have been focused on making it clear to China that any support they provide to Iran is unacceptable. "Believe me, much of my personal time and much of President Trump's time over the last month has been that very topic," he explained. He recalled past interactions, mentioning significant meetings from as early as October of last year and how tariffs imposed by President Trump led to productive negotiations. These efforts have resulted in significant achievements, including a significant reduction in the trade deficit by 50 percent.
The Ambassador noted that the positive momentum in US-China relations highlights the need to keep the conversation going. He mentioned upcoming international forums such as APEC 26, where further diplomatic engagement is planned. President Trump and President Xi have both expressed interest in attending the G20 summit, which could be another milestone in US-China dialogue. "That may happen this year," the Ambassador said, "That will be a historic year of conversation." The focus remains on maintaining open channels and addressing longstanding issues while upholding US interests.
