LEWISTON, Maine — House Majority Whip Tom Emmer did not mince words as he kicked off a 56-district national tour this week, telling Fox News Digital that the Democratic Party has been overrun by radicals who reject the American system outright.
"We're not talking about socialists, these are communists, Marxists and anarchists," Emmer told Fox News Digital during his first stop in Maine, where he campaigned alongside Republican House candidate Paul LePage.
The Minnesota Republican's tour is designed to shore up GOP candidates in key districts ahead of the midterms, with early voting already underway in several states. His message focused heavily on the economy at home — and on characterizing the leftward drift of the Democratic Party as a threat to the country itself.
Emmer singled out Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed as a prime example of what he called an "anti-American" strain within the opposing party, per Fox News Digital. El-Sayed, a former Detroit health director, has drawn national attention for his progressive platform.
Republicans Face Headwinds as Early Voting Begins
The GOP offensive comes as Republicans defend narrow majorities in both the House and Senate. Historically, the president's party loses congressional seats in midterm elections, and this cycle is no exception to that pattern in early polling.
According to Fox News Digital, Republicans are also contending with voter frustration over grocery and gas prices, public discontent with the ongoing war with Iran, and President Donald Trump's approval ratings. At the same time, Democrats are dealing with their own internal divisions — an ideological civil war between the party's left wing and its establishment — that has handed the GOP ample ammunition for attack ads.
Republicans have flooded the airwaves with messaging tying Democratic candidates to the far-left factions of their party, a strategy Emmer's tour is meant to amplify in person.
Paxton Ad Adds to Texas Midterm Activity
In a separate midterm development, Angela Paxton — the estranged wife of Texas Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton — released a new ad urging voters to support the GOP ticket despite their personal differences, according to reporting from another outlet.
The Texas race remains one of the most closely watched Senate contests in the country.
Our Take
Emmer is doing what more Republicans should have been doing for years: naming the ideology of the people asking for your vote. For too long, the GOP treated the Democratic Party as a loyal opposition — a group of well-meaning folks with bad ideas. That courtesy has been repaid with open borders, weaponized federal agencies, and a generation of young Americans taught to hate their own country.
When Emmer calls these candidates "communists, Marxists and anarchists," he isn't engaging in hyperbole. He is reading their platforms. The candidates the Democrats are recruiting in 2026 don't hide their contempt for the market economy, for parental rights, or for the Constitution. They announce it. The only thing new here is that a Republican leader is finally willing to say it out loud instead of whispering it at fundraisers.
But talk is cheap in Washington, and the GOP has a credibility problem of its own. Voters remember promises made and not kept. They remember spending bills signed and border walls not finished. Emmer's 56-district blitz is a smart tactical move, but it will only work if the candidates on the ballot can point to results, not just rhetoric.
The stakes could not be higher. If Democrats take back the House, they will finish what they started in the Biden years — and this time, there may be no Trump to stop them. Six weeks out, the only poll that matters is the one on Election Day. Patriots, the time to get involved is now.
