Secretary Wright has revealed that energy supplies from the Strait of Hormuz have seen an increase, with production levels rising over recent weeks. In a statement, Secretary Wright noted, "We've got increasing supplies coming out of the Strait of Hormuz, and they've continued to rise over the last months, over the last recent weeks." This uptick in supply aligns with a record high in U.S. gasoline production. However, the demand for gasoline is naturally decreasing following the summer driving season.
Diesel and Gasoline Prices Expected to Drop
Secretary Wright also discussed the current state of diesel and gasoline prices, which have been on a declining trend. He attributed this to several factors, including the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and China's decision to halt diesel and gasoline exports. Wright pointed out the challenges posed by the closure of two major Californian refineries due to policies enforced by Gavin Newsom, stating, "And frankly, 15 years of Democrat policies that have been energy subtraction, trying to close coal plants, close refineries, and shrink our capacity, which means when you get in crisis, we're just less resilient than we should be." Despite these challenges, Wright remained optimistic about the future, asserting, "I expect that to continue," regarding the downward trend in energy prices.
Global Impact of G7 Oil Release
The Secretary highlighted the recent G7 oil release strategy and its potential impact on diesel prices globally. "This lowers diesel prices, not just in the United States, but it lowers them in Europe and around the world," said Wright. Europe's large diesel stocks, stored due to their limited refining capacity, are a crucial part of this strategy. With Russian diesel exports halted and China abstaining from the market, this release is expected to lower diesel prices through the winter and likely into the next spring.
Diplomatic Measures Against Iran's Nuclear Ambitions
On the diplomatic front, Wright praised the President's decisive actions regarding Iran's nuclear threat. "If his decisions were political, he would have just kicked the can down the road and delivered a nuclear-armed Iran to the next president," Wright stated. Acknowledging the potential for energy prices to spike as a consequence, the President remained steadfast, aware of the risks but focused on preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Wright emphasized the importance of this stance, quoting the President: "The world cannot sustain a nuclear-armed Iran, and I'm not going to do it." Despite the complexity involved, this approach underscores the administration's commitment to global security while maintaining a focus on energy resilience.
