The Justice Department, under the direction of Attorney General Todd Blanche, is actively addressing what he describes as a crucial nonpartisan issue: election integrity. Blanche underscored the importance of this matter, emphasizing that it should transcend political divisions.
Increased Prosecutions for Illegal Voting
Attorney General Blanche revealed that the Department of Justice has taken decisive steps to enforce election laws. Specifically, he reported that over the past four years, they have charged more than 90 individuals, some legally present in the country and others illegally, for voting when they were not permitted to do so. Blanche highlighted the contrast with the previous administration, noting that during the Biden years, only 13 charges were filed for similar offenses—averaging about three per year. In contrast, Blanche reported that in the past 30 days alone, the Trump administration has charged 30 individuals with illegally voting.
Ensuring Compliance with Election Laws
Beyond prosecutions, the Justice Department is also actively monitoring compliance with election laws across the states. Blanche emphasized that the department is ensuring that states adhere to established legal standards aimed at preserving the integrity of elections. He reiterated President Trump's position on basic safeguards for the electoral process, such as voter ID requirements. Blanche argued these measures are reasonable expectations, expressing support for having voters confirm their identities to ensure they are who they claim to be.
