A South Texas Democrat who went after a Republican rival for supposedly living "the good life" on donor money has some explaining to do about his own campaign account.

Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, D-Texas, accused Republican Mayra Flores of enjoying a donor-funded lifestyle after her campaign reported spending at Disney World — and she was allegedly spotted returning from the theme park around the same time. That was in October 2025.

But Gonzalez's own campaign records, reviewed by Fox News Digital, show nearly $20,000 in spending on domestic and international travel, much of it with his wife along for the ride — and yes, including his own trip to Disney World.

According to Fox News Digital, Gonzalez posted photos on social media in April 2025 documenting a two-day Disney World trip with his wife and several other associates. His campaign reported payments to the Florida theme park and resort totaling more than $1,100 around the same time.

That was just one stop on a much longer spending trail.

The Travel Tab: Washington to the Persian Gulf

The records show campaign money flowing to upscale restaurants and hotels stretching from Washington and Texas to California and Europe.

The biggest single item: a 2024 trip to the United Arab Emirates that used campaign funds. During that trip, more than $13,000 went to airfare and hotel expenses, per Fox News Digital. Gonzalez's Facebook posts from the same period showed him and his wife sightseeing — and one photo taken from a bed inside a top-floor luxury hotel room next to the beach. Gonzalez described the trip on social media as an "after campaign break."

The spending didn't stop at the Gulf. Fox News Digital reports the campaign also racked up a five-star hotel stay on the beach in the UAE and a Michelin-starred restaurant bill in Zurich. In multiple cases, Gonzalez's wife accompanied him, or appeared to accompany him, on overseas trips paid for with campaign funds, based on the congressman's own social media posts.

Whether any of this violated federal campaign finance rules is a separate question — and no enforcement action has been announced. But the political problem is simpler: the man who lectured voters about a rival's donor-funded perks was funding his own version of the good life out of the same account.

The Race That Makes This Stick

Gonzalez, a fifth-term Democrat, is fighting to keep his South Texas seat against Republican Eric Flores in November. Flores defeated Mayra Flores and a crowded GOP field earlier this year, and the matchup has drawn national attention as both parties battle for the district.

The timing of the original attack matters. Gonzalez aimed his "good life" jab at Mayra Flores while she was the Republican standard-bearer. Now he's facing a different opponent — and a paper trail that puts his own travel spending in the frame.

Campaign finance rules allow limited personal use of campaign funds in some circumstances, but spending on family travel and entertainment routinely draws scrutiny from watchdogs and opponents alike. Gonzalez's campaign has not publicly explained the specific expenses identified in the Fox News Digital review.

For voters in Texas's 34th District, this isn't an abstraction. Every dollar spent on a beachfront hotel room in the Emirates or a Zurich tasting menu is a dollar that didn't go to ads, turnout operations or the district back home.

Patriots have watched Democrats spend years lecturing the country about money in politics — while doing the same thing, or worse. Gonzalez reportedly tore into a rival for living it up on donors' dime. His own filings suggest he knows the territory well.

It is not yet known whether Gonzalez will address the spending directly or whether his campaign will provide documentation for the trips. What is known is that the receipts are public, the photos are his own, and the election is less than a month away.

Our Take

There's a word for Democrats who scream about dark money and donor influence while their own campaign account pays for a five-star stay in the UAE: hypocrite. Vicente Gonzalez didn't just talk about the good life — he booked it, billed it, and posted the pictures himself. Then he turned around and accused a Republican of doing exactly that.

This is the oldest play in the left's book: project your own sins onto your opponent and hope the media never checks the FEC filings. But the filings are public, the social posts are timestamped, and South Texas voters get to weigh all of it before November.

If Gonzalez wants to explain why a "campaign break" in the Persian Gulf belongs on a donor's tab, he should do it on the record, in the district, before Election Day. Sunlight is the best disinfectant — and there's a whole lot of sunlight between Disney World and Dubai.

Isn't it funny how they always point fingers at us but never practice what they preach? Enough is enough!

This is exactly why we need more transparency with campaign funds. People deserve to know where their money is going.

I wonder how much of this was documented and reported. Will the IRS take notice, or will they sweep it under the rug?

The hypocrisy is mind-blowing. When will voters realize these politicians don’t have our best interests at heart?

Sadly, some people get fooled by the sweet talk every time.
