President Trump rallied in Syracuse, New York, bringing former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson onstage with him and telling the crowd that Republican control of Congress is the price of a $5,000 payment to every adult citizen.
The president's motorcade departure was announced by RapidResponse47 shortly before 10 p.m. Eastern, with Tyson and Yankees President Randy Levine aboard. The White House posted the pairing hours later: "POTUS X @MIKETYSON. Next stop: New York."
'Lake America'
Trump opened with a line he has made a signature of upstate appearances.
"It's great to be back in upstate New York, just a short distance from the beautiful shores of Lake America," he said.
The White House followed with a one-line statement of intent: "President Trump will always fight for his home state of New York."
The $5,000 promise
The president said Republican wins in the House and Senate would trigger direct payments to adult citizens, funded, in his account, by tariffs and what he called record-setting economic success.
"If Republicans win the House of Representatives and the Senate, I am going to give all adult citizens in the United States of America $5,000," Trump said. "And only Republicans can do that, and the Democrats can't, because we're taking in massive amounts of money through tariffs and record-setting economic success."
He told the crowd the alternative was worse.
"If the Democrats win, you will have a 1929 style economic depression," he said. "If the Republicans win, you will each have $5,000 in your pocket, an economic success for our country, the likes of which we have never, ever seen before."
Medicare money back to seniors
Trump said his administration recovered funds appropriated for Medicare improvements that he said Democrats never spent, and that checks are now moving.
"My administration is also located, billions and billions of dollars that were supposed to be spent on improving Medicare, but they never spent it," he said. "So instead they wanted to hide it, they wanted to keep it and try and make their fake numbers look better."
"This week over 20 million seniors are going to receive a check for a minimum of $100 each because I found all that money and we're sending it back to the people to whom it belongs," he said, adding that New York is home to roughly one million of those seniors.
Immigration contrast
The president turned to a stabbing of an off-duty New York City police officer that he attributed to two men from the Dominican Republic with prior arrests, and to recent ICE arrests in the region.
"Just last week, two illegal aliens from the Dominican Republic who were released into our country by Crooked Joe Biden and had numerous prior arrests... attempted to rob an off-duty New York police officer, stabbing, hacking, and slashing him seven times," Trump said.
He said ICE had also apprehended men with convictions for murder and rape, and a man wanted in connection with a gang killing.
"He's a very dangerous man, and they got him, but instead of being praised, ICE was scorned by New York politicians," Trump said.
Tyson takes the stage
Trump called Tyson up mid-remarks. The former champion kept it short.
"I'm just happy to be up here with my president, President Trump, and there's no way in the world I would ever be here if it wasn't for a president like Donald Trump," Tyson said. "Thank you. Thank you very much. I don't want to fight him."
The president closed the night in Syracuse the way he has closed recent rallies, and the account that posted the moment framed it plainly: "TRUMP DANCE IN SYRACUSE — THANK YOU, NEW YORK!"
