EXPOSED: Canada's Anti-Trump Government Runs to China — and It's a Choice for Economic Decline

Canada's anti-Trump government is choosing closer ties with China — a move that will accelerate the country's economic decline under the leadership of far-left Prime Minister Mark Carney, Breitbart reported Sunday.

The last-minute rejection of a trade deal with the United States, followed by media spin from Carney and other Liberal Party members, was not an isolated decision. According to Breitbart's reporting, it is the latest step in a longer pattern of pulling away from Western allies — and poking the neighbor that happens to be the world's only existing superpower.

The numbers make the stakes plain. Roughly 73 percent of Canada's exports go to the United States. Just 4.4 percent go to China. Retaliatory tariffs on up to $20 billion in U.S. goods, imposed by Ottawa, now sit on top of that relationship.

Carney's election in 2025, per Breitbart, was driven by a frenzy he and fellow Liberal Party leaders whipped up over trade and tariff policies destined to change once President Trump began his second term. The concerns were not new: the U.S.–Mexico–Canada Agreement was an improvement over NAFTA, but imperfect, which is why one of its built-in clauses called for a review of shortcomings — a review U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer initiated on July 1.

Instead of working that review process, Ottawa went the other way. In January 2026, Canada and China agreed to a new trade deal. Under its terms, Canada allowed China to dump 49,000 electric vehicles into the country at a most favored nation rate of 6.1 percent, replacing a previous 100 percent tariff. In exchange, China agreed to lower tariffs on Canadian canola seed to 15 percent."

The political wiring behind the move is not subtle. The Canadian Liberal Party maintained close ties to U.S. Democrats for over a decade, hosting former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at events and employing political operatives from the Democratic National Committee. Carney took an unprecedented step this year by naming one of them, Maia Johnson, to lead his office in a newly created Chief Operating Officer role while also managing Canadian-U.S. relations.

The rejection of a U.S. trade deal and the Beijing pivot drew a sharp verdict from Breitbart: this is a choice for economic decline. The outlet's assessment is that Canada is trading its most important market for a partner that buys a fraction of its goods — and doing so on ideological grounds.

For Americans, the practical consequences land closest to home in the auto sector and along the border. Chinese EVs entering Canada at a 6.1 percent rate create a backdoor pressure point on the integrated North American auto supply chain, much of which crosses the border multiple times before a vehicle is finished. U.S. manufacturers have spent years warning that Chinese overcapacity finds the weakest entry point into the continent. Canada just opened one.

Tariffs have also been a live issue at the Kitchen table. Canada's retaliatory levies on up to $20 billion in U.S. goods raise costs on products American farmers, ranchers and small manufacturers sell north of the border — the same people who got squeezed during the last round of trade retaliation.

It is not yet known how the Greer-led USMCA review will treat Canada's China arrangement, or whether the terms of the January 2026 EV and canola deal remain exactly as reported. What is known is the direction of travel: away from the United States, toward Beijing, under a prime minister who campaigned on standing up to Trump and has governed accordingly.

Our Take

Mark Carney can call it a "new world order" all he wants. In Canadian dollars, it's a fire sale. Seventy-three percent of your exports go to one customer. Four-point-four percent go to the other guy. You keep the first customer happy — you don't slap tariffs on him and hand his auto market to the Chinese Communist Party on a 6.1 percent platter. That isn't trade policy. That's a temper tantrum with a national balance sheet attached.

And notice who Carney picked to run the relationship that matters most: a Democratic National Committee operative, elevated to a Chief Operating Officer role that didn't exist before. The Liberal Party spent a decade hosting Obama and Hillary and hiring from the DNC's bench. That is who is negotiating with Washington on behalf of Canadian workers. Ask a Canadian autoworker in Oshawa or a canola farmer in Saskatchewan whether that's the team they'd want at the table.

This is what happens when a country's leadership decides that hating Donald Trump matters more than feeding its own people. Trump's America First agenda was never a secret and never a mystery. The USMCA review clause was in the deal in black and white. Canada had a seat at the table and chose to walk out of the room to go shake hands in Beijing.

American patriots should watch this closely — because the same globalist playbook shows up here. Sell out domestic industry, call it progress, and let the media write the obituary later. Canada is running the experiment in real time.

So here's the question: if Ottawa is willing to torch the world's best trading relationship to spite one American president, what does that tell you about every other country that smiles at us while quietly cashing Chinese checks?
