President Trump described Iran as a failed state in remarks carried Monday by the Rapid Response account, saying its economy has collapsed and its military is going unpaid, and that a decision on Iran is coming shortly.
"Iran is a failed country. They have no economy. They have 300% inflation. They have no money. They're not paying their troops. They're not paying anybody," the president said. "We'll make a decision on Iran very soon."
The assessment covers the ground the White House has pressed for months: an Iranian economy under inflation running at three times over, a treasury the president says is empty, and troops going without pay. Trump put the inflation figure at 300 percent.
A Decision Coming 'Very Soon'
The president gave no timetable beyond his own words — a decision, he said, would come "very soon." He did not say what the decision would be.
In the same remarks, Trump turned to oil, referring to the Humboldt straight as a route carrying "a lot of oil."
"We can throw the Humboldt straight," he said, "and a lot of oil is coming out of the Humboldt straight."
The president's comments come as his administration weighs its next move on Iran.
