President Trump signaled he may back a suspension of the federal diesel tax, telling reporters the move is on the table even as he predicted fuel prices would fall once Iran is defeated.
"It is something I may support, but we're going to have it fixed very quickly. We're going to have Iran defeated very quickly. And as soon as that happens, oil and diesel will be falling like a rock. It's going to be coming down very fast. But it's something I may do anyway," Trump said.
Tax Relief Tied to Foreign Policy Victory
The president connected potential diesel tax relief to military and economic pressure on Iran. He asserted that a rapid defeat of Iran would drive down oil and diesel prices, easing costs for truckers and consumers.
Trump did not commit to an immediate suspension, but left the door open to acting regardless of the timeline for falling fuel prices.
Relief for Drivers and Industry
The federal diesel tax suspension would directly benefit trucking companies, farmers, and motorists who rely on diesel fuel. The president's comments suggest relief could come from both a tax cut and lower market prices.
The remark came in a brief exchange with reporters, captured in a video released by the White House rapid response team.
