Kathy Hochul did not just lose a debate on Thursday night. She was handed a receipt for every failed policy she has signed into law, and it totals $268 billion. Bruce Blakeman stood across from the Governor of New York and did what no legacy media reporter has done in years: he forced her to look at the numbers that working-class New Yorkers feel every single month.
Forty-eight utility rate hikes. Four thousand dollars added to the average annual bill. Another $4,000 projected by her own energy research department inside five years. And a $268 billion state budget that hands free debit cards and cell phones to people who broke the law to enter this country.
Blakeman did not need a punchline. He held her ledger up and she had nowhere left to run.
"Donald Trump didn't raise utility rates 48 times," Blakeman told her. "You did."
The Numbers Hochul Cannot Escape
This is not Republican spin. The projection of another $4,000 on average utility bills comes from Hochul's own energy research department. That is the detail the press will sand down by morning, but it is now on the record. Hochul's energy policies have already added $4,000 annually to household bills. Her own people say another $4,000 is coming. That is an $8,000 annual utility reality confronting families in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and every borough of New York City.
And what is her solution? A $150 election-year rebate check. She took four thousand dollars and mailed back one-fifty, then demanded a thank you. That is the entire Albany model in a single check.
The $268 Billion Budget That Buys What Exactly?
Vito Paladino put the next number down. A $268 billion state budget. While New Yorkers watch their meters climb, Hochul presides over a spending machine that funds free phones, free debit cards, and services for illegal migrants. This is not compassion. This is a wealth transfer from the working class to a political donor class that profits from chaos at the border.
New York already issued 32,000 licenses to foreign nationals, with 53% issued illegally. Secretary Duffy pulled $73 million in federal funding in response. Yet Hochul keeps spending as if the taxpayers of New York are an unlimited ATM.
"It's out of control, and it's because of you, Kathy," Blakeman said.
Nine words. Every digit of this disaster belongs to her.
Hochul's Only Answer: Trump
In the final stretch of the debate, Hochul's answer to every question was the same word repeated forty times: Trump. But Trump is not on the ballot in New York. Paladino said it plainly: "Trump was not in the race, Kathy. It's between Bruce and you."
She is not running against Donald Trump. She is running from forty-eight rate hikes, a $4,000 utility bill, a projected second $4,000 hit, and a budget that funds illegal immigration while New Yorkers struggle to pay the light bill.
The record belongs to Hochul. The amnesia belongs to the people who keep electing it. New York just became the country's warning label for what happens when the Left runs a state without any accountability. Blakeman put the numbers on the table. Now it is up to voters to decide if they are tired of paying for the privilege of being governed by people who despise them.
