U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations arrested Mukeshkumar Somabhai Chaudhari, a non-citizen, for knowingly making a false claim of United States citizenship to vote in the 2024 general election, the Department of Homeland Security announced.
According to a federal grand jury indictment returned September 10 in the District of Minnesota, Chaudhari signed the voter signature certificate required by Minnesota law on November 5, 2024. The certificate required him to swear or affirm that he was a citizen of the United States. The indictment alleges Chaudhari was not a U.S. citizen and knowingly made the false citizenship statement in order to vote.
Federal Charges for Election Fraud
The two-count indictment charges Chaudhari with making the false citizenship claim. The arrest comes as the Trump administration continues to prioritize election integrity and enforce federal laws against non-citizen voting.
The case was investigated by HSI in coordination with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota. Chaudhari's arrest serves as a warning that illegal voting will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
