President Donald Trump on Thursday said Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) 'truly hates our country' and is 'a very corrupt person,' while distancing himself from any potential Justice Department action against her.
'I think she's a crooked person, but I'm not involved. That's DOJ,' Trump said when asked about Omar. 'She is a person that truly hates our country.'
Trump defers to Attorney General Todd Glantz
Speaking about any legal proceedings, Trump deferred to his attorney general. 'Look, we have a great attorney general, Todd Glantz, it's going to be up to them. I'm not involved in that,' he said.
Trump said he has only seen reports about Omar in the media: 'I see it on your show. I see it on the news. I read about it.'
Omar 'comes from one of the worst countries in the world'
The president sharply criticized Omar's country of origin, Somalia, and suggested she should return there.
'She comes from one of the worst countries in the world. Absolutely. They have no government. They have no military. They have no police. They have nothing,' Trump said.
'She comes over here, drives around in fancy cars, lives in beautiful houses, everything. But she comes over here and she starts talking about my constitution. Now I have constitutional rights. She's throwing the constitution out and telling us how to run America.'
Deportation 'not worth it'
When asked about deporting Omar, Trump dismissed the idea: 'And you would let her be deported. It's not worth it.'
'Personally, I've said it many times before she ought to go back to her own country and get a little help them out. She couldn't help anybody anyway. She's just a troublemaker,' he added.
'But I'm not involved in it. I think she's very bad for our country,' Trump concluded.
