Vice President JD Vance forcefully rejected media insinuations that President Donald Trump has personally profited from his time in office, calling the suggestion baseless and unsupported by any evidence.
Speaking to reporters, Vance acknowledged that public officials enriching themselves from public trust would be a serious concern—but said that concern does not apply to President Trump.
"I've seen these media reports and I have the same reaction I imagine a lot of people in this room have which makes me uneasy when I read about my public officials potentially getting wealthy off of my public trust," the Vice President said.
No Evidence of Corruption, Vance Says
Vance then delivered his blunt assessment: "I have not seen a single shred of evidence that he participates or sanctions in that corruption."
The Vice President emphasized that Trump's wealth long predates his political career, undermining any narrative of enrichment through office.
"This guy was a billionaire before he ever got into politics. He made a lot of money before he got into politics," Vance said.
The Real Story: A Billionaire Who Lost Fortune in Politics
Vance challenged reporters to consider what Trump actually endured during his first term, suggesting the former president's finances suffered rather than benefited from his time in the White House.
"Would anybody look at what happened to him from 2016 to 2021—they tried to throw him in jail for like 900 years—and say that Donald Trump has personally enriched himself?" Vance asked.
The Vice President concluded by drawing a clear line between policy disagreements and accusations of corruption: "You can make all kinds of criticisms of our policies and decisions, but I don't see a single—I've not once seen evidence that Donald Trump has enriched himself."
