President Donald Trump has signed the White House Accord on Super Intelligence, a four-part plan designed to ensure safety for the American people as artificial intelligence systems advance toward superintelligence.

Jay Clayton, Chair of the Super Intelligence Force, described the president's direct role in pushing the accord forward. "The President was like, 'Hey, you guys are coming together. You have this four-part plan for the Super Intelligence Accord, for ensuring safety for the American people. That is a good step that we can take right now,'" Clayton said.

External Auditors and Development Standards

The accord includes external auditors and an effort to agree on standards for development. Clayton emphasized the need for both control and monitoring of superintelligent systems. "You have to have control and monitoring together," he said.

Clayton said the next 120 days will be spent moving the accord as far down the track as possible, then putting it on a path toward permanency—while acknowledging that future adjustments will be necessary.

"Knowing that we have to course correct because things will change," Clayton said.

International Cooperation Can't Be a Prerequisite

Clayton warned that the United States cannot wait for international cooperation before addressing the risks of superintelligence. "The US is not the only place where these models are being developed," he said. "Trying to get international cooperation is always a challenge."

"We can't wait for that to address the issues around SI," Clayton continued. "We have to address them hoping we'll have international cooperation. But right now, knowing that we don't."

The White House Accord on Super Intelligence represents the Trump administration's latest step to establish domestic safeguards for advanced AI while keeping the door open for global collaboration.
