The United States Ambassador to the United Nations delivered a blistering takedown of the Cuban communist regime on Monday, rejecting its annual claims of victimhood and exposing the stark contrast between the suffering of ordinary Cubans and the luxury enjoyed by regime officials and their enablers.
Speaking to the media after the regime's latest attempt to push a resolution condemning a so-called U.S. blockade, the Ambassador was unequivocal: "Every year, Brian, the regime comes here and they play the victim and they introduce these resolutions, for example, about a blockade around Cuba. There's no blockade around Cuba. There's no ring of Navy ships."
Political Prisoners Challenge Communist Narrative
This year, the U.S. mission turned the tables by bringing in voices the Cuban government would rather silence. "What we've done this year, we just brought in a group of political prisoners, artists, musicians, and others that have been jailed by the Communist regime to tell their story, experts on Cuban corruption, Cuban regime corruption," the Ambassador said.
The Ambassador laid out the grim reality: "The people are starving. There's blackouts yet. The regime officials are living in luxury in Europe and Latin America. There's no fuel on the island, yet there's fuel for their private jet and their private compounds. There's electricity at the Cuban and Chinese intelligence collection sites, but there's no electricity in the hospital."
Regime Losing Its Grip on the UN
Under President Trump's leadership, the days of Cuban propaganda going unchallenged at the United Nations are over. "The regime is losing their mind. The UN was kind of their baby. Well, not anymore, not under this administration," the Ambassador stated. "We're pushing back on this propaganda."
The Ambassador relayed a direct appeal from the former political prisoners to the international community: "Do not fail the Cuban people by buying into regime propaganda right now."
Even as the forum concluded, the regime's desperation was on display. "We saw the yelling, the screaming. We saw Cuban regime officials trying to intimidate and film these poor people as they were walking out of our forum," the Ambassador reported.
