President Trump is calling Democrat Mary Peltola's Senate candidacy 'voter fraud,' saying it 'should not have been allowed to happen' and that it was orchestrated with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
In a video posted by the Trump campaign's Rapid Response account on October 29, Trump was asked whether Republicans should refuse to meet with Peltola if she wins in January.
"Well, you're going to have to see what happens. It's hard to believe that she couldn't be allowed to run. Frankly, I don't know how you can allow somebody like that to run. It's so unfair when you look at that, but nobody knows what to press," Trump said.
Trump Points to 'Fraud' in Alaska Senate Race
The president highlighted what he described as a scheme involving two candidates named Dan Sullivan in the race. "You have Dan Sullivan, who's a great senator. You have another guy named Dan Sullivan, who never even, I think, voted before. He didn't campaign. He was just put there as a fraud," Trump said.
"But people aren't going to know that. So nobody's going to know what to do. That's a fraud," he added.
Trump made clear he does not view Peltola's candidacy as legitimate. "It shouldn't be allowed to happen, and it was done in conjunction with Schumer and everybody else. It's called VOTER FRAUD. It should not have been allowed to happen," he said.
The comments came as the campaign's social media account shared the president's remarks with the caption: ".@POTUS on Mary Peltola: 'It shouldn't be allowed to happen, and it was done in conjunction with Schumer and everybody else. It's called VOTER FRAUD. It should not have been allowed to happen.'"
