JEFFRIES WON'T RULE OUT IMPEACHMENT: 'We Haven't Ruled Anything Out'

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) said Thursday that Democrats have not ruled out impeaching President Donald Trump, telling ABC News Live that 'we haven't ruled anything out' when asked about the possibility.

Jeffries made the remark during an interview with ABC News correspondent Jay O'Brien, according to Breitbart. The exchange came as Democrats campaign for the 2026 midterms with a focus on winning back the House and Senate.

'The American people are clearly poised to give House and Senate Democrats...'

Jeffries' comment stops short of a commitment to pursue impeachment, but it leaves the option open. The Minority Leader did not detail what circumstances might trigger such a move, and no articles of impeachment have been filed.

The political math is central to the story. Republicans currently hold a narrow 218-214 advantage in the House, with two vacancies and one independent who caucuses with Republicans, according to Reuters. Democrats need a net gain of four seats to secure a majority. In the Senate, Republicans hold a 53-47 edge, with Democrats needing a net gain of four seats to take control.

Any impeachment effort would begin in the House, where a simple majority is required to impeach. Conviction and removal in the Senate require a two-thirds majority, a threshold no president has ever faced in practice. Trump was impeached twice during his first term and acquitted both times.

Not all Democrats are eager for a third round. Former Vice President Kamala Harris has urged her party to focus on investigations instead, warning against rushing into another impeachment attempt, according to News18. That report noted an ongoing debate within the party over whether another impeachment battle is worth pursuing.

Jeffries' remarks come as Republicans hold both chambers of Congress and the White House. Trump won a second term in 2024 and was inaugurated on January 20, 2025. Republicans have controlled the government since, pursuing an agenda that includes mass deportation of illegal immigrants, tariffs, deregulation, and an end to what the administration calls 'woke' policies in the military and federal agencies.

If Democrats win the House in November, they would gain the power to investigate the administration, summon officials, and put executive decisions under scrutiny. Impeachment is one tool in that arsenal, but it carries political risk. A failed impeachment could energize Trump's base and damage Democrats ahead of the 2028 presidential race.

For everyday Americans, the immediate impact is limited. Jeffries' statement is a signal about how Democrats might govern if they win, not a legislative action. But it matters for voters deciding whether to hand Democrats control of Congress: a vote for a Democratic House is a vote for the possibility of a third impeachment proceeding.

It is not yet known whether House Democrats would pursue impeachment articles if they win the majority, or what specific conduct might prompt such a move. Jeffries' office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Next News Network.

Our Take

Here we go again. Hakeem Jeffries can't even bring himself to say impeachment is off the table. That's not an accident. It's a tell.

The Democrats spent Trump's first term impeaching him twice over nothing that met the constitutional bar, and both times the Senate acquitted him. Now, with the polls looking competitive, Jeffries is hedging, keeping the threat alive to fire up his base and keep the cash flowing.

Notice what he didn't say: that Democrats would focus on the real issues facing Americans, like the border, inflation, or crime. Instead, he left the door open to another partisan circus. That tells you everything about the party's priorities.

Kamala Harris, of all people, is warning Democrats not to overreach. When even she sees the danger, you know the impeachment obsession is a political loser. But the radicals running the party don't care. They want to relitigate 2016 and 2020 forever, because they can't accept that Trump won fair and square.

Patriots, this is why November matters. If Democrats take the House, they will weaponize Congress against the President. They will subpoena, harass, and yes, try to impeach again. The only way to stop it is to keep Republicans in charge.

So when you hear Jeffries say 'we haven't ruled anything out,' believe him. He's telling you exactly what they'll do if they get power. The question is: are you going to let them?

This whole thing is a distraction from the real issues like inflation and the border. Congress should be doing its job instead of chasing headlines.

My dad used to say you can tell what politicians really want by what they refuse to rule out. Jeffries just confirmed it for all of us. Sad state of affairs.

I voted for the man twice and I'll say this - if there's actual evidence of wrongdoing, then let the process play out. But this smells like political theater to me.

Bring it on! The American people see right through this nonsense and it'll backfire on them spectacularly.

Pretty sure that's exactly what happened last time they tried this.

Of course they haven't ruled it out. Impeachment has been their plan since day one. Jeffries is just finally saying the quiet part out loud.

Took them long enough to admit it publicly.

Exactly. They've been salivating over this since 2016.

What specific grounds would they even be pursuing? All I ever hear is vague accusations with no substance. Serious question - has anyone actually laid out a coherent case yet?

They can't because there isn't one. It's all about the headlines.

Finally! I've been waiting for someone in leadership to actually stand up and say what needs to be said. Lock and load, folks.
