MADISON, Wis. — Michael Alfonso, a 26-year-old political newcomer and the son-in-law of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, has won Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District, becoming the youngest member of Congress in the nation.
The Associated Press called the race for Alfonso at 10:02 p.m. Tuesday. With 79 percent of the vote in, unofficial totals showed Alfonso with 56.1 percent to Democrat Fred Clark's 43.9 percent, according to WPR.
Alfonso took the stage in front of family and supporters as the crowd rose and chanted his name, WPR reported.
Trump Endorsement and America First Agenda
Alfonso campaigned as a strong advocate of President Donald Trump and his administration, leaning heavily on the president's endorsement in a district that heavily favors Republicans. Trump called Alfonso a "MAGA Warrior" in his endorsement.
In his election-night speech, Alfonso said it is time for younger Americans to have a seat at the table on national political issues.
His platform included support for dismantling the Department of Education, taking action on gender-specific restrooms in schools, and getting kids out of college and into trades. He also expressed concerns about communism and thanked Moms for Liberty in St. Croix County for their help during the campaign.
Path to Congress
Alfonso's victory follows a bruising Republican primary in which he faced allegations of nepotism, inexperience, and potential corruption tied to his involvement with a reality-style show that Transportation Secretary Duffy produced with help from large donations from companies he regulates.
Duffy previously held the 7th District seat from 2011 until he resigned in mid-2020. The district covers roughly 18,000 square miles across 26 counties in northern Wisconsin.
Alfonso is a Wisconsin native and political newcomer. He will be the youngest member of Congress when he is sworn in.
Democrat Opponent
Democrat Fred Clark, who lost the race, has not publicly commented on the results.
What It Means
Alfonso's win adds another pro-Trump voice to the House Republican conference and signals that the president's endorsement remains a powerful force in Republican primaries. His focus on affordability and reigniting the American dream will be tested as he enters a Congress facing inflation and economic policy.
At 26, Alfonso will bring a younger perspective to the House, a point he emphasized in his campaign.
Our Take
This is a victory for the America First movement and a clear rejection of the old guard. Alfonso's win proves that voters in northern Wisconsin are hungry for fresh faces who will fight for their values, not the same tired establishment politicians.
The Left and their media allies will try to smear Alfonso with allegations of nepotism, but the voters have spoken. They want a fighter who will stand with President Trump, dismantle the Department of Education, and push back against the radical gender ideology being forced on our kids.
Alfonso's age is a feature, not a bug. The Democrats are offering the same failed policies of the past, while Republicans are putting forward a new generation of leaders who understand the struggles of everyday Americans.
Patriots, this is what winning looks like. Let's keep the momentum going.
