President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he has offered the White House press secretary job to Dana White, president and CEO of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, in a Truth Social post that immediately set Washington ablaze.

"Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other," Trump wrote. "Dana, please take the job!"

The vacancy has been open since mid-October, when Katie Zacharia exited the position after just a few days on the job. Trump's announcement comes at a moment when his administration is looking to reset the narrative after a bruising election cycle.

Trump described White as "a violent Fighter and Warrior" and urged him to bring a roster of high-profile UFC fighters with him—"even though some are not from our Country." The president included photos of six fighters in his post, writing, "We need these people to defend us against the Lunatic Left." Among the images was what appeared to be an AI-generated image of White behind the presidential seal in the White House briefing room.

White fueled the speculation further by posting an Instagram photo of himself behind the lectern in the White House press briefing room with the caption, "On to the next chapter." It was unclear whether White's post was tongue-in-cheek. The UFC chief, who is also head of Zuffa Boxing, was ringside in London on Saturday for a fight between Chris Billam-Smith and Cheavon Clarke at the Copper Box Arena.

White's combative style with journalists is well documented. In 2020, he released a video targeting reporters who had questioned the UFC's decision to hold fights early in the pandemic. In 2009, he released an expletive-laden video tirade while rebutting a journalist's story about backstage credentialing rules at UFC events.

Trump's post included images of UFC fighters Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes, and Kayla Harrison—whose last name Trump mistakenly rendered as "Harris." The president acknowledged that Makhachev and Nurmagomedov are not Americans, but did not mention that Nurmagomedov is reportedly close to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The announcement drew immediate reaction on social media. Bill Melugin, a correspondent for Fox News, posted on X: "BREAKING: President Trump announces he has offered the White House Press Secretary job to UFC President Dana White." Another account, TrumpDailyPosts, wrote: "Holy Crap! President Trump just nominated UFC's Dana White and his people to be the White House Press Secretary and his team! And yes this is an actual post from President Trump on Truth Social." The account also posted a video animation of the image, saying, "WOW, President Trump just nominated UFC's Dana White to be his press secretary and if he would accept this as a sample of what the fake news media would get daily!"

The BBC reported that it has asked the White House, UFC, and its parent company TKO Group Holdings for comment. It is not yet known whether White has accepted the offer. The Guardian noted that White might hesitate to leave a lucrative role—his fortune is estimated to be in excess of $600 million—for a government job that pays $195,000 a year.

White's potential appointment would place a sports executive famous for his no-holds-barred approach to media relations at the center of the White House press operation. The White House press secretary is responsible for fielding questions from the press corps and communicating the administration's message. Trump has long relished the idea of a fighter in that role, and his post suggests he sees White as the man to take the fight directly to the media.

Our Take

This is the kind of move that drives the establishment wild—and that's exactly why patriots love it. Dana White has built the UFC into a global powerhouse by being unapologetic, direct, and absolutely unafraid to take on a hostile press. Sound like anyone else you know? The Lincoln Project types and the legacy media hacks are already clutching their pearls, but think about what this means for the White House podium. No more scripted, canned answers. No more press secretaries who look like they're reading off a teleprompter while the country burns. Dana White would walk into that room and treat the White House press corps like a post-fight press conference—straight answers, no nonsense, and if you ask a dumb question, he'll tell you it's a dumb question. The American people deserve transparency, not the carefully curated spin we've gotten from the administrative state for decades.

As for those who say a UFC executive has no place in government, remember that this is the people's White House. Trump has spent his entire political career proving that outsiders who love this country can do the job better than the lifelong bureaucrats who've run it into the ground. White is a businessman, a builder, and a patriot who has created thousands of jobs and turned a struggling sport into a multibillion-dollar enterprise. That's more real-world experience than most of the Ivy League apparatchiks who populate Washington.

The question now is whether White will take the job. If he does, you can bet the White House briefing room will never be the same—and that's a good thing for America. What do you think, patriots? Should Dana White take the job and bring the fight to the fake news media? Sound off in the comments below.

People forget Dana White endorsed Trump at the RNC and has stood by him through everything. Loyalty matters, and Trump rewards loyalty. That's a good thing.

Amen to that. Loyalty is rare these days, and Trump recognizes it when he sees it.

Honestly this is genius. Trump knows how to put fighters in the right corners. Dana White has been loyal since day one.

Dana White would run circles around the current press corps. He doesn't back down from a fight and he tells it straight. This is exactly the kind of energy the briefing room needs.

Can you picture him saying 'you want to talk about that? Let's talk about it' at a press briefing? I'd actually watch again.

Exactly! The man built the UFC from nothing. Imagine what he could do with a podium.

I've been to a couple UFC events and Dana White is all business. He'd bring a no-nonsense attitude the media has never dealt with before. Love this idea.

Does Dana White actually want the job though? Running the UFC and running the White House press room are two very different gigs. Curious how this would work.

If he handles reporters the way he handles fighters who miss weight, the press room is about to get a whole lot more interesting. I'm here for it.

Wait, is this serious or is it a negotiation tactic? Either way it's a brilliant way to get people talking about the press secretary role again.
