On Wednesday, Republican Texas Rep. Chip Roy ripped into House Judiciary Chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler after he claimed that having guns in the house means that women are more likely to get killed when domestic violence breaks out.

“The presence of a gun in domestic violence situations increases the risk of homicide by women by 500%,” Nadler said to the House Judiciary committee. “So, pass this amendment, and you’ll see an increase in domestic — in homicides of women by 500%.”

Watch the moment happen at the 7:36:25 mark to 7:41 mark.

“I would note that the chairman just said that the existence of a firearm — I think you might have said in the household, I’m not sure — increases the likelihood of violence by 500% or something of that nature,” Roy responded.

“And I’d say, well, not if the woman holds it,” accentuated Roy.

Roy then ripped into him over his efforts to go after firearms in general with the act and described it as essentially a moving goal post.

The bill is H.R. 1808 that’s affectionately known as the “Assault Weapons Ban Act of 2021.” It passed the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday and follows the first gun control to be signed into law in 30 years.

“As we have learned all too well in recent years, assault weapons — especially when combined with high-capacity magazines — are the weapon of choice for mass shootings,” committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., said during the bill’s markup. “These military-style weapons are designed to kill the most people in the shortest amount of time. Quite simply, there is no place for them on our streets.”

Rep. Matt Gaetz responded to the passing of it by saying, “They’re coming for your guns.”

“This bill makes it a crime to knowingly import, sell, manufacture, transfer, or possess a semiautomatic assault weapon (SAW) or large capacity ammunition feeding device (LCAFD),” it reads.

The committee passed the legislation on to the House. Every Republican in the room voted ‘no’ on it. It was originally written by Rep. David Cicilline last year in March.

Democrats really think that guns don’t let women defend themselves. They definitely do and tell that to the women that who carry one for self-defense so that they can stand up to a man intending to hurt them. Do you think that Chip Roy is right about the Second Amendment?
