Officials at West Point are removing Confederate monuments from the campus, including one of Robert E. Lee, who once served as the academy’s superintendent.

During the holiday break, the academy will undergo a “multi phased process” to remove Confederate references and installations, according to the NY Post.

Lee’s Confederate uniform portrait will be removed from the library, where it’s hung since the 1950s, along with his stone bust and quote about honor from the academy’s Honor Plaza. The scrub will also include removing the bronze bust of the top southern general from Reconciliation Plaza.

As part of a directive released in October, the academy is being ordered to remove installations that “commemorate or memorialize confederacy.”

Bronze panels depicting Ben Franklin, Clara Barton, Lee, and other Confederate figures, as well as a hooded figure with the words “Ku Klux Klan” are also being removed.

The items will be placed in storage.

Additionally, West Point’s Memorialization, History, and Museum Committee will propose new names for Confederate-themed streets, buildings, and areas, as noted by CNN.

This disgraceful clean sweep is not the first of its kind, as it is intended by the woke left to ‘move forward with the changing times.’ While history cannot be forgotten, it serves as an important reminder that generations need to acknowledge our history, whether we agree or not. To remove symbols of this history only creates further division in our nation. We must preserve history – both good and bad – so that we can learn from it, understand it, and remember it for future generations.
