The once innocent and fun-loving Cartoon Network has taken a disturbingly progressive turn with its upcoming episode of “We Baby Bears.” According to GLAAD, the children’s channel has decided to include LGBTQ themes in the Season 2 premiere, titled “Polly’s New Crew.”
The episode, which airs on Saturday, features two non-binary characters that the bears meet. The use of preferred pronouns and how to use them is even shown in a clip. Is this really appropriate for a children’s show?
The decision to include such controversial themes came after crew members “came out with they/them pronouns,” according to GLAAD. It’s clear that Cartoon Network is more interested in appeasing its woke employees than its viewers and their families.
But it’s not just about the inclusion of non-binary characters. The premise of the episode is also highly inappropriate for its target audience. The bears meet an old friend who has been cursed, which is surely too dark and complex for young children to understand.
It’s concerning that the show team values representation more than creating wholesome, family-friendly content. Is this really what parents want their children to be watching?
And let’s not forget that children are impressionable. Normalizing non-binary identities could lead to confusion and a lack of understanding about gender norms.
Cartoon Network, like many other television channels, has a social responsibility to its audience. It’s disappointing that it has chosen to push a political agenda through a children’s show instead of creating content that fosters education and morality.
We can only hope that Cartoon Network realizes its mistake and reverts back to creating shows that are appropriate and beneficial for children.
