For some time now, the United States has had restrictive rules for travelers wanting to come into the country. That includes for Americans who might want to leave the country, because they had to meet the requirements to get back in. This has hurt tourism for everyone.
Now, however, things are about to change. On June 12, 2022 at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time, the United States will drop its Covid-19 international travel policy, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Many Americans have foregone traveling internationally due to the requirement that anyone entering the United States must test negative for Covid-19 a day prior to flying into the United States, reports CNBC. Most people have something they have to get back to, be it school, kids, pets or work, so risking having a positive test and not being able to get home was not an option.
Donald Trump started the rule very early in 2021. Biden later “tightened” the rule.
“American Airlines CEO Robert Isom told an industry conference last week that he met with politicians in Washington, D.C., to discuss the testing requirement, a rule he called ‘nonsensical.'” He added, “We’re really frustrated,” reports CNBC.
Prior to June 12, the United States had one of the most restrictive border policies, at least for people wanting to fly into the country, in the world. You can [already] enter Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, most of Europe, Africa, South America, the Middle East without having to test negative for Covid-19.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will reassess the decision in 90 days, according to a senior Biden administration official, reports CNBC. “If there is a need to reinstate a pre-departure testing requirement — including due to a new, concerning variant — CDC will not hesitate to act,” the official said.
Here’s one conservative’s take on the action by Biden though: “Has anyone heard international travel restrictions are being lifted? I don’t trust the Left at all, it seems they want Covid back just in time for the midterms. What say you?”
Inflation is higher than the media is reporting-you won’t believe this!
It looks like the United States is one of the last holdouts to lift international travel restrictions. It should be a good thing for tourism, both into and outside of the United States. Could there be any truth to what Blue Eyed Brat tweeted though?
