House Republican Whip Tom Emmer is demanding the federal government strip citizenship from and deport Somali nationals allegedly connected to widespread fraud schemes in Minnesota, following disturbing reports that stolen taxpayer funds may have been channeled to the Al-Shabaab terror group in East Africa.

The Minnesota congressman issued the urgent call as investigators continue to uncover the staggering scope of fraud operations that have plagued his home state, bilking federal programs designed to help vulnerable Americans out of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Taxpayer Dollars Funding Terrorism

According to reports cited by Fox News, evidence suggests that funds stolen through various fraud schemes—including those targeting pandemic relief programs and federal nutrition assistance—may have made their way to Al-Shabaab, a violent jihadist organization designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the U.S. State Department.

"If you came to this country, gained citizenship, and then used that privilege to steal from American taxpayers and fund terrorists who want to kill Americans, you should lose your citizenship and be deported immediately," Emmer's office stated.

The fraud schemes have become a national embarrassment for Minnesota, with the "Feeding Our Future" scandal alone resulting in charges against dozens of defendants accused of stealing over $250 million meant to feed hungry children during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trump Administration Expected to Act

The call from Emmer comes as the Trump administration has made cracking down on immigration fraud and protecting national security top priorities since taking office in January. The President has repeatedly emphasized his commitment to removing individuals who pose threats to American safety and security.

Unlike the previous Biden administration, which critics accused of turning a blind eye to fraud and immigration violations, the current White House has signaled a zero-tolerance approach to those who abuse America's generosity.

Growing Concerns in Minnesota

Minnesota has become a focal point for concerns about refugee resettlement and integration, with the state's large Somali population concentrated primarily in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. While many Somali-Americans are law-abiding citizens, the fraud allegations have raised serious questions about vetting processes and oversight.

Emmer's demand reflects growing frustration among conservatives who argue that immigration benefits should be contingent on loyalty to the United States—and that those who betray that trust by funding America's enemies deserve the harshest consequences under the law.

Federal authorities have not yet commented on whether citizenship revocation proceedings are being considered in connection with the ongoing investigations.

I live in the Twin Cities and have watched this community for years - there have been multiple cases of young men being recruited for overseas terror activities. Why isn't this being taken more seriously by local officials?

Finally someone with backbone is speaking up! If you're funding terror groups, you shouldn't get to keep the privileges of American citizenship.

Agreed, but we need to make sure due process is followed. Can't let emotions override the legal system even when we're angry.
