Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appeared on ABC's This Week with Jonathan Karl during the holiday week to discuss her upcoming retirement from Congress and what she believes her legacy will be, after announcing in November that she would not seek reelection.

The California Democrat, who has spent nearly four decades in Washington, used the interview to promote her version of her congressional career. However, Americans on social media were quick to provide a reality check on Pelosi's actual record.

"Nearly 4 Decades in Washington and the only thing Pelosi accomplished was over 13 Government Shutdowns and became a Millionaire+!!!" wrote Twitter user @babs19135, highlighting the disconnect between Pelosi's self-assessment and her tangible results for the American people.

Another social media user, @BrianSt03826698, was even more direct in his assessment, calling Pelosi's time in office "A career of corruption" in response to ABC's promotional coverage of the interview.

Timing Raises Questions

The decision to air this interview during what many call "Twixmas" - the dead period between Christmas and New Year's when most Americans are focused on family rather than politics - has raised eyebrows among media observers. The timing suggests ABC may have been hoping to minimize scrutiny of Pelosi's claims about her legislative achievements.

Conservative commentator @joliveroconnell noted the interview's focus on topics including "#nancypelosi #SanFrancisco #Congress #Legacy #J6 #Obamare," highlighting the controversial elements of Pelosi's tenure that continue to generate debate.

As Pelosi prepares to leave Congress after decades of wielding significant power in the Democratic Party, her interview represents an attempt to shape historical perception of her role. However, the immediate pushback on social media suggests many Americans view her legacy quite differently than she does.

Under President Trump's leadership, Republicans are preparing to fully control Congress, marking the end of an era of Democratic obstruction that defined much of Pelosi's time as Speaker.

What legacy is she talking about exactly? Tearing up the State of the Union on live TV?

Good riddance! Time for fresh leadership that actually represents working families instead of special interests.

About time someone called out her record! San Francisco has become completely unlivable under her watch - homelessness, crime, and businesses fleeing left and right.

Exactly right Mike. I had to move my family out of SF last year because it's just not safe anymore.

Finally! The mainstream media has been protecting her for years while regular Americans suffered under her policies. Her district has some of the worst income inequality in the nation despite all her promises.

Don't forget the insider trading allegations that conveniently got swept under the rug.
