El-Sayed, who has the full backing of Bernie Sanders and the radical left establishment, is positioning himself as an "outsider" who wants to "take on the oligarchy." But don't be fooled - this is the same tired playbook Democrats have been running since AOC first started pretending to be a grassroots candidate.
The former public health director is pushing all the greatest hits of the socialist songbook: government-run healthcare, massive spending programs, and policies that would crush Michigan's recovering economy. Yet when pressed on the socialist label, he runs faster than a Detroit Lions quarterback in the playoffs.
The Left's Favorite Magic Trick
This isn't stupidity - it's strategy. Democrats have figured out that while Americans reject socialism when it's called by its real name, they can sometimes be tricked into supporting socialist policies when they're wrapped in feel-good rhetoric about "fixing the system."
El-Sayed's campaign represents everything wrong with today's Democratic Party. They want to implement policies that would make Venezuela proud, but they lack the courage to own what they're actually proposing.
