Thompson, who represents California's wine country, couldn't resist taking cheap shots at Trump, accusing the President of "unlawful" actions without providing any specific evidence. It's the same tired playbook Democrats have been running since 2016 – throw around inflammatory accusations and hope something sticks.
The designated survivor tradition exists as a critical safety measure to ensure continuity of government during major events like the State of the Union, where nearly the entire federal leadership gathers in one location. Typically, one Cabinet member and a member of Congress from the opposing party are kept in secure, separate locations during the address.
But leave it to a California Democrat to turn what should be a solemn constitutional responsibility into another opportunity for political grandstanding. Instead of focusing on his duty to potentially serve the American people in a crisis situation, Thompson is already plotting his next anti-Trump talking points.
"This is exactly what's wrong with today's Democratic Party – they can't even handle a basic constitutional duty without turning it into a partisan circus," one GOP strategist told Next News Network.
Trump's upcoming State of the Union promises to be a powerful showcase of his administration's remarkable achievements in just the first few weeks of his second term. From launching the largest deportation operation in American history to slashing government waste through Elon Musk's DOGE initiative, the President has delivered on his campaign promises at record speed.
Meanwhile, Democrats like Thompson are stuck in the past, still clinging to the same failed narratives that cost them the 2024 election. Americans rejected their radical agenda decisively, yet they continue to double down on division and obstruction.
