In a stunning display of partisan politics, Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.) publicly identified himself as one of the designated survivors for President Trump's upcoming State of the Union address – then immediately used the platform to launch baseless attacks against the commander-in-chief.

Thompson, who is supposed to remain secure and ready to lead the nation in case of catastrophe during the president's speech, instead chose to politicize his critical role by accusing Trump of "unlawful" actions without providing any evidence to support his inflammatory claims.

This outrageous breach of protocol exposes everything wrong with today's radical Democrats. Even when entrusted with one of the most solemn responsibilities in our constitutional system – serving as a backup leader for the entire nation – Thompson couldn't resist taking cheap political shots at President Trump.

Democrats Can't Help Themselves

The designated survivor tradition exists to ensure continuity of government during joint sessions of Congress when the president, vice president, and congressional leadership are all gathered in one location. It's supposed to be a non-partisan safeguard for American democracy.

But leave it to the Trump-deranged Democrats to weaponize even this sacred duty. Instead of focusing on his constitutional responsibilities, Thompson chose to grandstand and spread more of the same tired anti-Trump rhetoric that cost his party control of the White House and Congress.

"This shows you exactly where Democrats' priorities are," said one GOP source familiar with the situation. "They can't even fulfill basic governmental duties without turning it into another attack on President Trump."

Trump Derangement Syndrome Continues

Thompson's inappropriate comments come as President Trump prepares to deliver what promises to be a triumphant State of the Union address highlighting his administration's incredible achievements in securing the border, unleashing American energy, and draining the swamp.

While Trump focuses on delivering results for the American people, Democrats like Thompson remain obsessed with relitigating the past and undermining our democratically elected president.

The question patriots should be asking: If Democrats can't even handle the designated survivor role without partisan attacks, how can Americans trust them with any real responsibility?

Trump Derangement Syndrome is real folks!

I remember watching my first State of the Union back in the 80s with my parents. There was so much more respect for the office and the process back then, regardless of party differences.

Typical Democrat behavior - can't even let one night be about unity and America. Always has to be about Trump bashing.

This is exactly why we can't trust Democrats to put country first. Even when they're supposed to be part of the constitutional process, they're playing politics!

100% agree. They've been doing this since day one of Trump's presidency.

This is why Trump won - Americans are tired of this constant partisan nonsense. Focus on governing instead of grandstanding!

Exactly. People want results, not more political theater.

Absolutely shameful behavior from this representative. The designated survivor position is supposed to be about continuity of government, not partisan attacks.

Can someone explain why they always pick a Democrat for designated survivor? Seems like it should rotate between parties fairly.

It's usually based on cabinet succession order and congressional leadership, not party affiliation specifically.

What specific attacks did the representative make? The article mentions it but I'd like to see the exact quotes to judge for myself.
