A Tennessee Republican is fighting back against Benedict Arnold athletes who turn their backs on America for foreign paychecks, introducing legislation that would finally make these sellouts pay a price for their betrayal.
Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) has unveiled the "Officially Limiting Yearly Money Procured by Individuals Concerning Sportsmanship Act" – the OLYMPICS Act – which would slap a hefty tax on American athletes who compete for foreign governments, particularly those hostile to the United States.
The legislation directly targets athletes like freestyle skier Eileen Gu, who infamously ditched Team USA to represent Communist China at the 2022 Beijing Olympics while pocketing millions in Chinese sponsorship deals. While American athletes struggled with limited resources, Gu was living it up as China's golden girl, defending the regime's human rights abuses and censorship.
"Why should American taxpayers subsidize the training and development of athletes who then turn around and represent our adversaries?" Ogles reportedly said, highlighting the absurdity of our current system that allows athletes to benefit from American training facilities, coaches, and infrastructure before selling out to the highest bidder.
Making Turncoats Pay Their Fair Share
The OLYMPICS Act would impose taxes on income earned by athletes competing for "foreign entities of concern" – a category that would likely include China, Russia, Iran, and other nations that pose threats to American interests. This means athletes who want to chase foreign cash would finally face real financial consequences for abandoning the red, white, and blue.
This is exactly the kind of America First legislation we need from the Trump-Vance administration era. For too long, we've watched privileged athletes benefit from everything America has to offer, only to turn around and boost our enemies on the world stage.
Patriots across the country are asking the obvious question: If you don't want to represent America, why should America subsidize your success? Rep. Ogles is giving us the answer – make them pay for the privilege of betrayal.
