The scandals just keep piling up for Graham Platner, the troubled Maine Democrat hoping to challenge Susan Collins for her Senate seat. The middle-aged oyster farmer and Marine veteran who already faces scrutiny over his Nazi tattoo is now under fire for allegedly mocking Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary.
Platner, who claims he's "running against the billionaire class that owns [Susan Collins] and all of Washington," has somehow managed to survive multiple controversies that would sink any Republican candidate within hours. But this latest revelation about religious mockery may finally be the straw that breaks the camel's back - even for Maine Democrats.
The timing couldn't be worse for a party already struggling with credibility issues. As one concerned observer noted on social media, Platner "sounds like a typical antisemitic, Nazi, atheist, Democrat" - a damning assessment that captures exactly what many Americans are thinking about today's radical left.
"Here's the thing I can't believe people don't get: Collins is going to go scorched Earth on Platner and then if he wins our credibility is SHOT for 10-20 years," warned Brien Jackson on X. "There will be no racist Republican scandals ever because Fox will just say 'Dems elected a guy with a Nazi tattoo.'"
That's exactly right. Democrats are setting themselves up for a political disaster that will haunt them for decades. How do you claim moral authority when your own candidate has Nazi sympathizer history AND mocks Christianity?
Another social media user referenced reporting from the Boston Globe that "documents his nazi sympathizer history and other baggage, which includes (in my opinion) his antisemitism. If he wins the primary it will help reelect Susan Collins."
Even Democrats are starting to panic about what Platner represents for their party. When your own allies are admitting your candidate will guarantee a Republican victory, maybe it's time to find someone else.
The real question is: how many more scandals can one candidate accumulate before even the most partisan Democrats say enough is enough? Maine voters deserve better than choosing between a RINO like Collins and a scandal-plagued Democrat who apparently has issues with both Nazis and Jesus Christ.
