In a stunning betrayal of Western allies, France has joined forces with China and Russia to block a crucial United Nations Security Council resolution that would have authorized the use of force to defend shipping in the Strait of Hormuz against Iranian threats.
The Gulf states, led by Bahrain, had drafted the resolution to protect vital shipping lanes that handle roughly 20% of global oil transit. But when it came time to stand with America and our Middle Eastern allies against Iranian aggression, France chose to side with our adversaries instead.
Social media erupted with outrage over France's shocking decision. "Russia, China, and France blocked an Arab-backed push at the U.N. Security Council to authorize military action against Iran over the Strait of Hormuz," reported Twitter user @danise_palmers, citing The New York Times.
"The Gulf States tried to advance a resolution in the UN Security Council allowing use of force to defend their ships in the Strait of Hormuz... Three countries blocked it. Russia, China... And FRANCE. You have got to be kidding me. What a disappointment Europe has been," posted @Shawn_Farash.
The betrayal becomes even more suspicious when you consider the personal animosity between French President Emmanuel Macron and President Trump. As @GarrettBullish observed, "China, Russia, and France just blocked the UN resolution to force Hormuz reopen... btw France was a surprise. maybe it's personal between Trump and Macron?"
This latest move by France demonstrates exactly why President Trump's America First foreign policy is so necessary. While our so-called "allies" stab us in the back at the United Nations, they expect American taxpayers to continue funding NATO and providing military protection for their own shores.
Iran's threats to close the Strait of Hormuz represent a clear danger to global energy security and American economic interests. Yet France - the same country that begged for American help in two World Wars - now stands with communist China and Putin's Russia against defending vital shipping lanes.
How long will American patriots tolerate allies who act like enemies when it matters most?
