Virginia Democrat Governor Abigail Spanberger is running scared from defending her party's shameless redistricting power grab, refusing to debate former Republican Governor George Allen over the Democrats' scheme to steal four more House seats through gerrymandering.
As Virginia approaches its April 21 special election on whether to redistrict the commonwealth in favor of Democrats, Spanberger's cowardly refusal to publicly defend her own redistricting push has sparked fierce criticism from Allen and conservative voices across the state.
"No civil discourse could justify VA redistricting except a full admission of gerrymandering, and the Democrats admit to that, for 'the good of our democracy'. Not wonder Spanberger declined," one Virginia observer noted on social media, highlighting the obvious hypocrisy.
The refusal becomes even more damning when you consider the Democrats' constant rhetoric about "protecting democracy" while simultaneously refusing to spend even 60 minutes answering questions about their own election map manipulation. As one critic pointed out: "Gov. Abigail Spanberger just ducked a debate on her own election map. The same people who shout 'protect democracy' won't spend 60 minutes answering questions."
Democrats Can't Defend the Indefensible
Allen's challenge to debate the redistricting issue in public was a perfectly reasonable request - one that any confident leader should welcome. But Spanberger's silence speaks volumes about the weakness of the Democrats' position and their inability to justify their naked power grab to Virginia voters.
This is the same tired playbook we've seen from Democrats nationwide: claim to be defending democracy while simultaneously rigging the system in their favor through redistricting schemes, then refuse to defend their actions when challenged.
Virginia patriots deserve better than a governor who won't even defend her own policies in public. If Spanberger truly believes her redistricting push is good for Virginia, why won't she make that case to the people?
The April 21 special election will be Virginia voters' chance to reject this Democrat power grab once and for all. Will they stand up to the establishment's manipulation, or will they allow Spanberger and her allies to steal representation through backroom dealing?
