Four states have taken matters into their own hands, enacting SAVE Act look-alike legislation to ensure only American citizens can vote in their elections—while Senate Majority Leader John Thune continues his pathetic failure theater on the federal level.
According to reports from The Federalist, these states refused to wait for Washington's dysfunction and moved forward with constitutional amendments explicitly clarifying that "only" U.S. citizens can participate in elections. Additional states are now preparing similar votes, creating a grassroots movement that's leaving establishment Republicans in the dust.
This is exactly the kind of America First leadership we need—and exactly the opposite of what we're getting from Thune and his RINO allies in the Senate. While President Trump pushes for nationwide election integrity through the SAVE Act, requiring proof of citizenship to vote, Thune has been playing political games instead of delivering results.
States Lead Where Washington Fails
The states taking action understand what every patriot knows: our elections should be decided by American citizens, period. It shouldn't be controversial. It shouldn't require years of debate. And it certainly shouldn't be blocked by establishment Republicans more worried about their cocktail party invitations than protecting our democracy.
"We can't wait for Washington to get its act together when our constitutional republic is at stake," one state legislator told reporters.
Meanwhile, Thune continues to demonstrate why so many Americans have lost faith in Republican leadership. Instead of fast-tracking President Trump's election integrity agenda, he's allowing Democrats and their media allies to frame basic citizenship requirements as somehow "extreme."
This is the swamp in action, folks. While everyday Americans demand secure elections and President Trump fights to deliver them, establishment Republicans like Thune provide cover for the very system that got us into this mess.
The question every patriot should be asking: If four states can protect election integrity right now, what's Thune's excuse for failing to pass the SAVE Act nationally? How long will we tolerate this failure theater while our republic hangs in the balance?
