In a stunning example of political flip-flopping, New Mexico's Democrat Representative Gabriel Vasquez is trying to save face after voting against President Donald Trump’s groundbreaking fiscal package, which included the no tax on tips provision. Just weeks after his oppositional vote, Vasquez introduced his own TIPS Act, advocating for a permanent 'no tax on tips' policy.

The apparent contradiction hasn’t gone unnoticed. Social media has lit up with reactions that blast Vasquez's political antics. @republicanolat tweeted, 'New Mexico voters, don't be fooled. This is another Trojan horse. Rep. Gabriel Vasquez didn't care enough to vote "no" on taxes on tips. Now, he embraces it. New Mexico, you deserve better.'

Adding fuel to the fire, former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer pointed out the hypocrisy with a tweet demanding accountability: 'Vulnerable battleground Dem embraces 'no tax on tips' after voting against Trump bill.' Vasquez’s attempt at a political do-over raises questions about his motivations and integrity.

According to @TheErikHoffmann, Vasquez claims his opposition stemmed from concerns over other measures in the bill related to Medicaid and food assistance, rather than the tips provision. But doesn't this just highlight an embarrassing lack of political courage? Are these the kind of fickle representatives America's heartland deserves?

This conundrum exemplifies the need for accountability in Washington. The people of New Mexico, and indeed all Americans, must demand consistent and unwavering dedication to causes that materially benefit working Americans—especially when it comes to protecting our hardworking tipped employees. With so much at stake, can New Mexicans trust Vasquez to keep his word going forward?

The tale of Gabriel Vasquez serves as a glaring cautionary note for Democrats facing tough re-election battles. The voters demand authenticity and honesty—not more attempts to confuse and placate. Patriots, it's crucial that we continue to hold representatives accountable. New Mexico residents, will you demand more cogent leadership when your voices truly count?

Honestly, does anyone have any idea why a 'no tax on tips' policy is controversial? You'd think it would be a no-brainer to support hardworking individuals.

Here we go again, another politician saying one thing and doing another. When will they learn that voters have memories too?

So disappointing! It's clear they only care about opposing Trump, even if it means hurting everyday workers. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Typical, just typical. These flip-flops are exactly why I lost faith in those who only say things to get ahead politically.

Exactly! They promise the moon but always find a way to renege on it.

It seems like some politicians are okay with taxing anything they can get their hands on. Perhaps, we need a clean slate of leaders who actually respect the hard work of citizens.

Couldn't agree more. Fresh faces with fresh ideas are necessary!

I've worked in restaurants when I was younger. Relying on tips is tough enough without politicians playing games with them. It's a disrespect to service workers.
