President Donald Trump said he will not attend the Alabama-Georgia football game, citing a large hurricane or storm approaching the country and the need for first responders and law enforcement to concentrate on it.

The president's statement was released in a post from the Rapid Response account, which carried his words directly from his own account.

"Based on the fact that a huge Hurricane/Storm is coming, it is important to have our wonderful First Responders, Law Enforcement, and others, focused on that Storm, and in no way be thinking about the safety, or presence, of the" game, the statement read.

First Responders Put First

The president's decision puts the priority on the emergency personnel who would otherwise be pulled into security and logistics for a major sporting event.

Trump has long praised law enforcement and first responders at his rallies and in official statements, and this announcement follows that same pattern.

The Alabama-Georgia game is one of the marquee matchups of the college football season, and an appearance by the president would have drawn heavy security and attention.
