Trump administration border czar Tom Homan said the federal government could denaturalize and deport Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) if investigators prove she committed fraud during the naturalization process, confirming on Fox News' "Big Weekend Show" Saturday that the Minnesota congresswoman will be held to the same legal standard as any other American.
Asked directly by co-host Tomi Lahren whether the investigation into Omar could involve "denaturalizing and then deporting her," Homan answered: "Of course."
"If you lie during the naturalization process, there is a process to denaturalize somebody," Homan said. "We've done it before. It's a long, tedious process, but it's been done before."
Homan, who has served as the administration's point man on immigration enforcement, made clear that Omar would not receive special treatment because of her position in Congress. "She'll be held to the same standards you and I are held [to]," he said. "If she violated the law, then she'll be held accountable."
The comments come after federal agents raided Omar's Washington, D.C. home earlier this week, seizing her cellphone and other possessions. Subpoenas have reportedly been issued to family members as investigators examine immigration paperwork filed decades ago. According to Fox News Digital, Omar's father became a U.S. citizen in 2000 when she was believed to be 17, automatically qualifying her for citizenship as a minor. However, allegations have surfaced that she was actually 18 at the time and would have needed to complete the naturalization process herself.
Homan declined to discuss specifics of the ongoing investigation but indicated that career investigators have built a substantial case. "I said over a year ago, the allegations were made clear, and it would be investigated, and they are investigating it," he said. "I'm not going to get ahead of the bureau or HSI, but I've been told they have a strong case, and we'll let the evidence lead where it leads."
When pressed on whether the investigation extends beyond immigration fraud, Homan deferred to the FBI. "That's a question for the FBI. I know things, but that's the question for FBI," he said.
The investigation has drawn fierce pushback from Democrats, who characterize it as political persecution timed to affect the November midterm elections, where Omar is on the ballot. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) has denounced the probe, and former President Barack Obama issued a rare public statement defending Omar this week, condemning the citizenship investigation, according to The New York Times.
Omar's attorneys have accused the Justice Department of potentially influencing an election in violation of longstanding internal policy, The Guardian reported. The congresswoman, a naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Somalia, has been a prominent critic of President Trump and a lightning rod for conservative outrage since entering Congress in 2019.
Social media posts from Fox News and Fox & Friends circulated widely over the weekend showing Homan discussing the investigation, with captions noting his comments about the possibility of arresting and removing the congresswoman.
The probe is part of a broader escalation of the administration's immigration enforcement efforts. As of April, the Justice Department had reportedly identified nearly 400 foreign-born citizens it sought to investigate for potential naturalization fraud, The Guardian reported.
Homan's remarks underscore the administration's willingness to pursue high-profile cases regardless of political consequence — a promise Trump made repeatedly on the campaign trail.
Our Take
For years, Ilhan Omar has lectured Americans about their supposed moral failings while her own immigration history raised uncomfortable questions that the legacy media dutifully ignored. Now the bill may finally come due.
Let's be clear about what Homan said: if the evidence shows Omar lied on her naturalization paperwork, she should face the same consequences as any other immigrant who defrauded the system. That's not persecution. That's equal justice under the law — a concept the Left claims to champion until it applies to one of their own.
The timing outrage from Democrats is rich. The investigation didn't begin last week — the allegations have been swirling for over a year, as Homan noted. The raid and subpoenas are simply the process working as it should. If Omar did nothing wrong, she has nothing to fear from a thorough investigation.
What's telling is how quickly Barack Obama and Hakeem Jeffries rushed to her defense. Why the panic? If this is truly a nothing-burger, why not let the facts speak for themselves?
Patriots, this is why border enforcement matters — not just at the southern border, but across the entire immigration system. When people lie to obtain citizenship, every legal immigrant who followed the rules is cheated. If the feds prove Omar committed fraud, she should be denaturalized and removed, full stop. No exceptions, no special treatment for sitting members of Congress.
Do you think Congress should be held to the same immigration standards as everyone else?
