Sen.
According to Breitbart, Sanders made the remark during a wide-ranging interview, also predicting that the upcoming election will be tight and that his preferred candidate, Abdul El-Sayed, will emerge victorious.
"I think it's going to be a close election. I think Abdul is going to win," Sanders said, according to Breitbart's account of the broadcast.
The interview comes amid a broader media blitz by Sanders, who has spent the past several days attacking President Trump on multiple fronts. On Monday, Sanders shared a clip from a Trump rally in Michigan where the president criticized Norway over its handling of the Nobel Peace Prize. Sanders posted on X that Norway is "one of the most democratic and prosperous countries on Earth" and called Trump's comments "insane."
In another post, Sanders slammed Microsoft over reports of 60,000 workers facing buyouts while the company has benefited from Trump-era tax breaks. That post, reported by Benzinga, accused the tech giant of raking in $19 billion in tax breaks and $134 billion in profits while cutting jobs.
And on Wednesday, Soap Central reported that Sanders aimed at Trump after the president quipped that his promised $5,000 check might not cover a burger and dessert at Mar-a-Lago. Sanders has been actively stumping for Democratic candidates, including El-Sayed, whom the Trump administration is reportedly targeting.
The Sanders interview on CNN is the latest in a series of attacks from the left as the midterm election season heats up. While Sanders claims Trump is "extremely dangerous," the president's supporters point to his second-term agenda — securing the border, deporting illegal immigrants, cutting regulations, and restoring energy dominance — as exactly what the country voted for in 2024.
The White House has not responded to Sanders' latest remarks.
It is not yet known whether Sanders' endorsement will carry weight in the Michigan race, where El-Sayed faces a tough primary. Recent polling cited by Reuters/Ipsos shows Democrats leading Republicans 47% to 36% in the generic congressional ballot, but Trump's approval rating has risen to 32% — a figure that his allies argue underestimates his support.
Sanders, a self-described democratic socialist, has long been a thorn in the side of mainstream Democrats and Republicans alike. His comments on CNN are likely to energize his progressive base but may alienate moderate voters who see Trump's policies as beneficial to the economy and national security.
Our Take
Bernie Sanders calling President Trump "extremely dangerous" is rich coming from a man who has spent his entire career advocating for socialist policies that would bankrupt this country. This is the same Bernie Sanders who wants to ban fracking, abolish private health insurance, and raise taxes on hardworking Americans to pay for his pie-in-the-sky giveaways.
While Sanders campaigns for radical leftists like Abdul El-Sayed — a candidate who has embraced defunding the police and open borders — he has the audacity to smear President Trump as dangerous. The real danger to America is the socialist agenda that Sanders and his allies are pushing.
President Trump is fighting to secure our borders, bring back American manufacturing, and put America First. That's what the voters elected him to do in 2024. Sanders and his left-wing mob are trying to undo that victory with lies and smears.
But here's the question: why is the media giving Sanders a platform to attack Trump while ignoring the failures of the Biden administration? Americans deserve better than the socialist lies of Bernie Sanders. They deserve a president who puts America First — and that's exactly what Donald Trump is doing.
