California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) went on ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Newsom, who took office in 2019 and has spent the past year positioning himself as a national spokesman for the Democratic resistance, made the forecast to a friendly late-night audience just six days before voters head to the polls. Breitbart reported that Kimmel asked the governor how Trump might respond to Republican losses this fall, and Newsom urged Americans to turn out in force to "push back" at the ballot box.
The interview follows a wave of late-night appearances by Newsom and other Democratic figures aimed at nationalizing the midterms. Mediaite reported that Newsom told Kimmel Trump's second term is very "different" from his first.
Kimmel'S MONOLOGUE TARGETS RED-STATE CANDIDATES
In the same broadcast, Kimmel used his opening monologue to defend Michigan's Abdul El-Sayed and Texas's James Talarico from accusations of radicalism, according to Breitbart. The host mocked Trump's comments about El-Sayed and about transgender issues, drawing laughter from the studio audience.
Newsom's appearance was promoted on the show's Instagram account, which posted a clip of the segment. The post's caption listed Newsom alongside JD Vance and MyPillow in the episode lineup; the video itself showed the governor seated across from Kimmel in the familiar guest chair.
CALIFORNIA SENDS LAWYERS TO WATCH FEDERAL POLL MONITORS
Newsom's prediction comes as his own administration prepares for a legal fight over election oversight. The governor announced that California will dispatch more than 100 election law attorneys to five congressional districts across the state to counter federal poll watchers, according to reporting from another outlet. The move signals that Democrats expect disputes over ballot access and monitoring in the final days of the campaign.
The governor's office did not respond to a request for comment on the specific districts or the cost of the legal deployment.
DEMOCRATS SEE MOMENTUM — BUT SKEPTICS ABOUND
Newsom is not alone in predicting a Democratic wave. A report from Really American, a Democratic-aligned outlet, described a focus group in Las Vegas in which Trump voters told Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) they were done with the president. That outlet also noted Trump canceled his only weekend rally before Election Day and is doing phone calls instead.
Yet the same report acknowledged that Democrats are "well behind" on paid subscribers and facing distribution pressure from social platforms — a sign that the party's enthusiasm gap may not be as wide as Newsom claims.
Republicans, for their part, have pointed to the president's travel schedule and the GOP's cash advantage in key Senate races. The White House did not comment on Newsom's remarks.
What is clear: the governor's "blue tsunami" language is a bet that voters will punish Republicans over the economy, immigration enforcement and the administration's deregulation push. Whether that bet pays off will be known Tuesday night.
Our Take
Gavin Newsom has been running for president since the day he was sworn in as governor, and this Kimmel appearance is just the latest stop on his national audition tour. The man who presides over California's homelessness crisis, its out-of-control energy prices and its fleeing businesses wants you to believe he's the future of the Democratic Party. If this is the future, America should be terrified.
But here's the reality check: Newsom's "blue tsunami" is a fantasy cooked up in a Hollywood green room. The same governor who just announced he's sending 100 lawyers to monitor federal poll watchers is the same governor who presided over a state where election integrity is an afterthought. Why is he so afraid of transparency? Why does he need a legal army to watch the watchers?
Patriots, don't let the late-night laughter fool you. The Left knows it's losing the argument on the economy, the border and crime. That's why they're resorting to celebrity-packed pep rallies and predictions of a wave that exists only in their imaginations. The only tsunami coming is the one from everyday Americans who are fed up with business as usual.
So here's the question: are you going to let Gavin Newsom and Jimmy Kimmel tell you what's going to happen next Tuesday? Or are you going to show up, vote, and prove them wrong? The polls open in six days. Make them count.
