WASHINGTON — A little-known agency inside the Department of Homeland Security has quietly done what Congress refused to do: it has reversed the legal status of approximately 2.2 million migrants who were welcomed into the country under President Joe Biden, according to an announcement from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and reporting from Breitbart.

The agency confirmed the enforcement actions in a statement, saying it has "carried out immigration enforcement actions to revoke or terminate the status of approximately 2.2 million illegal aliens" since Jan. 20, 2025. That figure is nearly seven times the number of comparable actions taken during Biden's final two years in office, according to the Daily Wire, which first reported the numbers.

USCIS says the actions are separate from the millions of visa revocations and denials issued by the State Department and the deportations carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Under Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin, the agency has moved to end Temporary Protected Status for more than one million foreign nationals from 13 countries, though some of those terminations are tied up in litigation, the Daily Wire reported.

The agency has also revived security reviews and fact checks that were effectively discarded under Biden, and it has halved citizenship awards while those checks are conducted. It ended the automatic extension of some work permits and terminated parole programs — including one that allowed roughly 500,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans to fly into the United States after receiving authorization.

In Spring, Ohio, USCIS ended Temporary Protected Status for the many Haitian migrants there, canceling their work permits and opening the door for ICE to fly them back to Haiti.

"President Trump promised the American people that our immigration laws would be enforced, and these numbers reflect the scale of that commitment," Mullin said in a statement shared with the Daily Wire.

USCIS framed the actions as a restoration of integrity to a system that had been used as a rubber stamp. "Every fraudulent application identified, every ineligible benefit denied, and every national security threat flagged represents an immigration system working to uphold the law and protect the American people," the agency said. It added that it is "exercising its full legal authorities to deny meritless applications, terminate unlawfully granted immigration benefits, initiate removal proceedings, and revoke improper approvals."

The agency still faces massive resistance. Breitbart reported that elite-funded pro-migration lawyers, pro-migration judges, sob-story journalists and progressive advocacy groups are fighting the rollback, and that DHS lawyers have repeatedly defeated the courtroom opposition. It is not yet known how many of the 2.2 million have ultimately lost their status, as some termination efforts face legal challenges.

ICE separately deported approximately 421,182 people between October 2025 and Aug. 24, 2026, according to a September agency report cited by the Daily Wire.

The practical effect is straightforward. Work permits, Social Security Numbers and green cards that were handed out under Biden are being pulled back, and the people who hold them are being pushed into removal proceedings. That means fewer migrants competing for American jobs, housing, school seats and hospital beds — and fewer incentives for the Democratic Party's urban machines and the non-profits that profited from the inflow.

For Americans who watched their wages stagnate while billions in taxpayer money was funneled to migrant resettlement, the USCIS numbers are the first hard evidence that the Trump administration's deportation agenda is actually moving through the system — not just being announced at press conferences.

Our Take

This is what enforcement looks like when the people running the agencies actually believe in the law. For four years, USCIS was the quiet engine of Biden's open-borders agenda — a rubber stamp that turned millions of illegal crossings into work permits, green cards and eventually voter-rich communities built by Democrat-aligned non-profits. No press conference, no accountability, just a bureaucracy processing the invasion while Americans paid the bill in lower wages and higher housing costs.

Now the same agency is doing the reverse. The 2.2 million figure should be a warning shot to every migrant who came here on a fraudulent claim and every lawyer who cashed in helping them: the paperwork you got under Biden is not a permanent shield. The Trump administration is going through the files, reviving the security checks the previous regime skipped, and sending cases to immigration court.

Patriots should expect the usual suspects — the open-borders lobby, the activist judges, the legacy media — to scream about cruelty. Ignore it. The cruelty was letting 2.2 million people into the country under false pretenses and then asking American families to absorb the cost. The adults are back in charge, and they are using the law the way it was written. The only question left is whether the courts will let them finish the job.

I voted for this kind of accountability and I'm glad to see it happening, though I'll believe the full reversal when I see the final numbers. These agencies have a habit of slow-walking corrections.

Precisely. Headlines are cheap, follow-through isn't.

Exactly right. Watch the implementation, not the press release.

2.2 MILLION. Let that number sink in. Absolutely unreal what was happening right under our noses.

Can someone explain the actual legal mechanism here? Are these grants being formally rescinded or just paused pending review? The distinction matters a lot for whether this is real accountability or just optics.

About time. My brother-in-law waited four years for his legitimate visa application to process while all this was going on. The double standard was infuriating.

That's the part that gets me the most. Law-abiding applicants stuck in line while others got fast-tracked.

Great news, but what happens to the people who already received benefits under these programs? Are there clawback provisions or is that money just gone?

My cousin works in immigration processing down in the Rio Grande Valley and he's been saying for two years that the backlog of questionable approvals was staggering. This reversal is a step in the right direction but there's a mountain of work left.

Finally some common sense coming out of DHS. This reversal is long overdue and I hope it's just the first of many.

Agreed, but let's see if it actually sticks. The bureaucracy has a way of dragging these things out.
