It’s a crying shame that we have come to the point where our most fundamental freedom, enshrined in America’s Constitution, has been hijacked by a government organization such as the ATF. One must wonder who made the decision for it to be so–certainly not the Founding Fathers! Despite our current situation, one must never forget that push-back against intrusive federal regulations is what made this great nation possible, and must remain vigilant to preserve our treasured freedoms.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) expressed her concern over the ATF’s pistol stabilizer brace rule on Wednesday. It looks like yet another example of unelected bureaucrats extending their power and authority by attempting to legislate without anyone’s approval or oversight. the Senator views this as an alarming attempt from the ATF to undermine constitutional rights, standing in direct opposition to our Second Amendment. How dare anyone – especially a government agency – impose limitations upon our constitutionally tight-held freedom?
Breitbart reports, Sen. Marsha Blackburn tweeted Wednesday that unelected Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) bureaucrats are “destroying our Second Amendment.”
As a result of the ATF’s pistol stabilizer brace rule, Blackburn tweeted in response, which requires owners of the braces to register them with the ATF, destroy them, destroy the entire firearm, convert attached pistols into long barrel rifles, or surrender the brace and firearm to the ATF.
Blackburn’s tweet reads: “ATF’s ruling on their Pistol Brace Rule is nothing more than government overreach. Biden and his unelected bureaucrats at the ATF are destroying our Second Amendment.”
Even Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA) spoke about new regulations proposed by the ATF during a House floor debate.
This latest pushback against the ATF is part of a growing trend.
Breitbart News reported on January 20 that Rep. Matt Gaetz introduced the Abolish the ATF Act.
In a tweet, Gaetz wrote, “House Republicans have the ATF in our crosshairs. The continued existence of the ATF is increasingly unwarranted based on their repeated actions to convert law-abiding citizens into felons. My bill today would abolish the ATF once and for all.”
In addition to Gaetz’s push, Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO) introduced a bill to repeal the National Firearms Act, under which the ATF could no longer turn law-abiding gun owners into criminals.
The situation with the ATF is a prime example of why we must pay close attention to our government’s actions. It is not the first, second, or third time they have disregarded the will of Americans who understand their rights and exactly what these regulations are doing and who they are serving. Our founding fathers were keenly aware of what a powerful tool gun control could be for an oppressive regime, and thus is why they opted not to create an agency specifically intended for this purpose. Because they had enough wisdom to understand how easy it would be for a corrupt gov to hijack such an agency and twist it to suit their own agenda. To avoid this, we must make sure that ATF is terminated or we the citizens will be paying the consequences soon.
