Liberals have had a very love/hate relationship with the pandemic. They talk a LOT about how bad it is, but at the same time they seem to love the drama of it, and seem to never want it to end. So what Anthony Fauci just told PBS NewsHour’s Judy Woodruff is certain to really throw them for a loop.
On April 26, 2022 Dr. Fauci announced what many of us thought we would never hear him say, which is that the United States is out of the pandemic phase for COVID-19. Watch:
Specifically, Fauci said: “We don’t have 900,000 new infections a day and tens and tens and tens of thousands of hospitalizations and thousands of deaths. We are at a low level right now. So, if you’re saying, are we out of the pandemic phase in this country, we are.”
I know, shocking right? Importantly, he stressed that other parts of the world are still in the pandemic phase, but the United States has made its way to the other side. Part of the reason, according to Fauci, is the combination of the number of people who’ve been infected and those who are vaccinated, so “you have a rather substantial proportion of the United States population that has some degree of immunity that’s residual.” Other tools are now available as well, such as the anti-viral pill Paxlovid which cuts the risk of ending up in the hospital almost 90%.
For many of us, this is a day for rejoicing! But for liberals who have organized their lives around mandates and lockdowns, vaccines and masks and the like, they must feel a bit lost at this news.
