Last week, Rep. Lauren Boebert took to the House floor and shredded Nina Jankowicz, the new head of Homeland Security’s Disinformation Governance Board.
On Tuesday during a floor debate, Boebert brought up Jankowicz and the board, which many people online refer to as the “Ministry of Truth.”
Boebert said before starting her speech, “Okay, let’s give them something to talk about…”
In the video, Boebert put a sign next to her with a quote from Jankowicz saying, “Who do I need to f**k to be famous and powerful?”
Last week on Wednesday, Boebert was joined by House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy and Minority Whip Steve Scalise to introduce legislation to end the board.
Democrats are likely not to take up the bill.
“They will manipulate the facts and discredit the truth when it’s inconvenient for their narrative,” said McCarthy at the time. He criticized the board’s head, Nina Jankowicz, and pointed to such issues like Hunter Biden’s laptop or COVID-19 lockdowns, before quickly leaving the press conference.
Boebert said at the time, “I wouldn’t trust [President Joe] Biden and his incompetent misfits to take care of one of my goats. And I certainly don’t trust them to be the arbiters of truth,” Boebert said. “I trust the American people. They are more capable of looking at claims, researching facts, (and) making informed decisions.”
The DHS has said that the group is trying to determine best practices in fighting disinformation that threatens national security. DHS Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas told the press that the agency should have done a better job telling the public about the board’s purpose. He said that it will not infringe on free speech.
