Elon Musk literally cannot go an entire day without stirring up some kind of major controversy. Now the world’s richest man has done it again with his new announcement that, at least in 2022, he will be voting Republican.
Musk revealed the change in his political philosophy during a video call-in tech summit in Miami, Florida.
The hundred billionaire told Newsweek Magazine, “I have voted overwhelmingly for Democrats, historically,. Like I’m not sure, I might never have voted for a Republican, just to be clear. Now this election I will.”
This change may be a huge announcement, but many people have also felt it was a long time coming. Just last week Musk implied that he was ready to throw his weight behind a Republican presidential candidate provided that the candidate is not former President Donald Trump.
Musk revealed his feelings about the former President after announcing he intends to restore Trump’s twitter access, tweeting, “Even though I think a less divisive candidate would be better in 2024, I still think Trump should be restored to Twitter.”
Musk has also made a habit of regularly clashing with Biden and his administration for their mishandling of the economy, record high inflation, and general incompetence.
Musk also moved Tesla from California to Texas during the pandemic in protest of liberal policies on employment, taxation, and the shutdown.
Another major indication from the Tesla CEO came in the form of a graphic he posted to his Twitter, indicating that his politics have not changed but that Democrats had gone so far left he had become a relative conservative.
He also spends plenty of time, as he says, “owning libs” on Twitter, even suggesting that was the reason he offered to buy out the company. He has often pushed the notion that conservatives are censored on social media, seemingly proving the alleged “theory” when hundreds of conservative pages received hundreds of thousands of new followers within 3 days of the announcement of his $44 billion buyout deal.
While the Twitter buyout is currently up in the air over a dispute that Twitter inflated its user numbers using skewed statistics, Musk has made it clear that he will use his position and power to fight back against anyone who suppresses free speech.
Do you think Elon Musk is doing a good job holding the left accountable? What would you like to see him do next?
