The convenience and ease of ordering from Amazon and Amazon Prime has really changed how Americans do business. Now, all you have to do is open your computer or even your phone and almost everything you need is at your fingertips. Often shipping is free, too. Who can beat that?
Now, it may start to get even faster and easier. Amazon just announced that it will begin delivering products using drones in Lockeford, California, later this year, reports CNBC.
Ten years ago, Jeff Bezos projected that drone delivery would be available in four or five years. He didn’t quite hit that mark but it looks like it could be soon. Alphabet, WalMart and even Dominoes have already started drone delivery in some places, with WalMart drone delivery already available to 4 million households. Amazon, however, says theirs will be the safest.
As this twitter user said regarding the safety of Amazon’s drones, “The company says it has created a “sense-and-avoid system” for its drones, allowing them to safely fly while “avoiding other aircraft, people, pets, and obstacles.”
Amazon plans to reach out to residents of Lockeford, California to see if they want to try the service. Someone from Amazon will come out and check out their backyard to make sure it will work with their service. Then, the test subject will order products as normal and, if the total weight is five pounds or less, they will receive their order in under an hour.

It’s taken Amazon longer than other companies, but if things work out in Lockeford, California, more of us may be receiving our Amazon orders by drone in record time. Have you ever had anything delivered by drone? If so, what was it like?
