It’s not even been two weeks since a jury decided in Johnny Depp’s favor in his defamation case against his ex-wife, Amber Heard. The jury awarded Depp over $10 million in the case, although he had asked for $50 million. Heard countersued Depp and the jury awarded her $2 million for her trouble. Now, Amber Heard is flying around in private jets.
Within days of the verdict, Amber Heard’s lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft, appeared on NBC’s “Today” show, and said her client can’t afford to pay the judgment. In fact, she stated, “Oh, no, absolutely not.”
It appears, however, that Amber Heard isn’t that broke. Recently, TMZ reported that Amber Heard was seen climbing out of a private jet. TMZ said, “[t]he actress popped up Friday at an airfield in Washington, D.C. — where she climbed down the stairs of her private plane and was ushered into a waiting luxury SUV.”
Maybe Amber is relying on Johnny’s attorney’s closing statement, where Ben Chew told the jury the case “has never been about money” or punishment. Johnny Depp even said his only goal in the lawsuit was to clear his name. During his testimony, Depp stated this: “My goal is the truth. One day you’re Cinderella and then in zero point six seconds you’re Quasimodo. I didn’t deserve that and neither did my children.” He added that he had a “responsibility to clear my name.”
One twitter user begged Depp not to let her off:
The world saw that Amber Heard can behave recklessly, during the long trial. And while it might be difficult for her to travel commercially right now, due to the negative attention she might receive, to say she can’t pay the judgment and to turn around and fly on a private jet is a bit reckless. Not only that, but if I were Depp, I might be a bit irritated by that behavior. Do you think he should make her pay the judgment, or let her off the hook?
