On Wednesday, President Joe Biden spoke at the White House’s South Court Auditorium and addressed the high gas prices plaguing his administration. As is typical, Biden blamed the prices on Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Let’s remember how we got here: Putin invaded Ukraine,” said Biden.
He also then suggested that Republicans cannot blame him for gas prices and oppose Putin’s invasion of Ukraine at the same time: a false comparison.
He then used the speech to push his “green” policies and his plans to “take millions of cars off the road.”
“We’re investing nearly $100 billion in public transit” to “take millions of cars off the road,” the president said.
Biden’s claim that Putin is solely responsible for the high gas prices is demonstrably false. Gas prices were rising steadily well before Putin’s invasion of Ukraine as is shown in the chart below.
On Wednesday, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell also contradicted Biden on the cause of the high gas prices.
“No. Inflation was high before, certainly before the war in Ukraine broke out,” Powell said.
Currently, the president is pushing for Congress to enact a gas tax holiday to lower the price of gasoline before the November elections.
“I promise you I’m doing everything possible, everything possible to bring the price of energy down,” Biden said during his speech.
Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn tweeted a simple rebuttal to Biden’s claim he’s doing all he can, “Restart the Keystone Pipeline.”

Do you think Biden is full of it or what? How long do you think they can keep gaslighting the American public on why gas prices are so high? They are not doing everything they can do to lower prices. The minute Biden came into office he signed several executive orders that immediately began affecting the price of gasoline.
