Vice President Kamala Harris was skewered online for the speech she gave after the deadly July Fourth parade shooting in Highland Park, Illinois. She also called for federal gun control laws to be passed in wake of the tragedy.
Harris demanded that Congress pass an assault weapons ban and vowed to bring Robert Crimo III, the alleged shooter, to “justice.”
However, people on the internet noticed one thing in particular about her speech.
“And we got to take this stuff seriously, as seriously as you are – because you have been forced to have to take it seriously,” Harris said to Highland Park residents in a serious tone.
“The whole nation should understand and have a level of empathy to understand that this can happen anywhere, in any peace-loving community,” Harris went on. “And we should stand together and speak out about why it’s got to stop.”
It was a serious speech for her and people seriously roasted her online for it.
Deb wrote about the VP’s lack of tone, “How can she be so bad at this. Honestly, I think she’s getting worse.”
One user compared her to how artificial intelligence would write a speech, “Her comments sound like what a first generation AI program might spit out if asked “What to say in response to a tragedy?”
One user wrote, “Did someone write that for her?”
Harris has been roasted previously for speaking in word salads and sounding like she is talking down to people. On a morning radio show she was asked to describe the Ukraine-Russia conflict “in layman’s terms” and she really dumbed it down.
“So, Ukraine is a country in Europe,” she said. “It exists next to another country called Russia. Russia is a bigger country. Russia is a powerful country. Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine. So, basically, that’s wrong, and it goes against everything that we stand for.”
According to Five Thirty Eight’s aggregate polling, only 40% of Americans currently approve of the job that she is doing. It’s better than Biden at least.
