When the draft opinion regarding the fate of Roe v. Wade was leaked, the writing was on the wall. While liberals held out hope that the Court would change its collective mind and some harassed the conservative Justices outside their homes, it was pretty clear that the decision was a done deal. And yet, Joe Biden was about to nominate an anti-abortion judge to a federal court.
Emails have come out that show that President Biden was about to nominate anti-abortion candidate Chad Meredith to the position of Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky, reports The Hill, on June 24, the same day the Supreme Court released its decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. He apparently changed his mind that day and the nomination hasn’t happened.
The emails are between the White House and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear’s office. The Kentucky Courier-Journal reported that “Gov. Andy Beshear’s office reversed course Tuesday and turned over a June 23 White House email that confirms President Joe Biden intended to nominate an anti-abortion Republican to a lifetime appointment as a federal district judge in Kentucky.”
The Courier-Journal further reported, “White House aide Kathleen M. Marshall, a former lieutenant governor in Nevada who joined the White House in August as senior adviser to governors in the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, sent the June 23 email that stated: “To be nominated tomorrow: … Stephen Chad Meredith: candidate for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky.”
The White House is being pressed on the issue but isn’t answering any questions. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is deflecting questions, particularly about a presumed deal Biden struck with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell related to the stalled nomination.
A Twitter user added this: “Beshear says the White House has still not given his office any feedback on whether or not they still plan to nominate Chad Meredith to Kentucky’s federal judgeship. Says WH has had plenty of time to update them but hasn’t.”
U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth vehemently opposed the nomination of Chad Meredith to a federal court position and has told the Courier Journal he thinks “Biden agreed to appoint Meredith, a Federalist Society attorney who has fought against abortion rights so that McConnell would not hold up future White House nominations.”
Are you ready for a gay spiderman?
This is the kind of information that all Americans need to know. Joe Biden goes around pretending to support choice, yet he would have nominated an anti-abortion judge to the federal court. Democrats would certainly be outraged by the information, which the White House is doing its best to keep quiet. Does this surprise you about Joe Biden?
