On Sunday, Democrat Mayor of Washington DC Muriel Bowser asked the Biden administration to stop states such as Texas and Arizona from bussing migrants into the nation’s capitol. She says that homeless shelter are filling up and it is making it harder on the city.
Bowser said on CBS’ Face the Nation, “I fear that they’re being tricked into nationwide bus trips when their final destinations are places all over the United States of America.”
She brought it up after the host Margaraet Brennan discussed a Washington Post report saying that homeless shelters are being filled with illegal immigrants “tricked” into travelling to the country’s capitol.
In April, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that he would use charter buses to ship illegal immigrants to Washington D.C. to fight the tide of illegal immigrants ending up in Texas. The move was in response to the president trying to remove the Title 42 rule allowing expulsions of migrants because of the pandemic.
“To help local officials whose communities are being overwhelmed by hordes of illegal immigrants who are being dropped off by the Biden administration, Texas is providing charter buses to send these illegal immigrants who have been dropped off by the Biden administration to Washington, DC,” Governor Abbott said.
“We are sending them to the United States Capitol, where the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border,” Gov. Abbott continued.
Under the Governor’s direction, the Texas Division of Emergency Management chartered buses to transport migrants to Washington, D.C. from countries like Angola, Brazil, Colombia, Congo, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

In May, Arizona Governor Doug Ducey began shipping migrants from his state to Washington DC to copy Abbott. Ducey the move was necessary to “little action or assistance from the federal government.”
